MITCHELL COCHRAN, MA

BOARD CERTIFIED CHRISTIAN COUNSELOR

Mitchell is a Board Certified Christian Counselor through the International Board of Christian Care. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Lubbock Christian University and a master’s degree in biblical counseling from Calvary University. Mitchell is currently working on his doctorate in theology from Kairos University. His dissertation work will seek to integrate theology, pain psychology, and neuroscience in order to propose a holistic theological psychology of chronic pain and suffering.

Mitchell’s philosophy of counseling and soul care can be summed up in the following three points:

1)      Centered on the Word of God and sound Christian teaching. Psychologist and theologian Ed Welch says about Christian counseling, “We don’t want anything dangling outside of God’s interpretive guidance.” While the Christian Scriptures are not the only source of wisdom, everything is filtered through the Word of God and historic Christian orthodoxy.

2)      Emphasizing both individual responsibility and the grace of God. Bad things happen to us that are often not our fault. However, in the midst of pain and suffering, everyone has the opportunity to take responsibility and to take the next step down the path of God’s grace. The client and counselor work together to discover the loving and wise approach to life and to life’s challenges.

3)      Ministering to the Whole Person. People are complex. Humans are biological, psychological, relational, and spiritual creatures. None of these dimensions of personhood is neglected in the counseling process.

Due to his experience with chronic migraines, Mitchell has a special passion for working with those who suffer from chronic pain and illness.

While Mitchell operates from a distinctly Christian framework, he is more than willing to work with people of all belief systems so long as he and his clients can agree to respect each other’s differences.

In addition to being on the Trailhead Christian Counseling team, Mitchell also serves as the Behavioral Health Consultant for Evangelion Medical, a family medicine clinic. He volunteers with the Barnabas Conference, a rural domestic missions society, where he serves as a traveling minister and as the Soul Care Coordinator.

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
— Galatians 5:1
